Anxiety treatment in Michigan, by telehealth

Support for worry, panic, and stress that get in the way of daily life, through secure video visits from anywhere in Michigan.

When anxiety becomes more than stress

Everyone feels anxious sometimes. It's a normal part of being human. But when worry is hard to turn off, shows up most days, or starts to shape your choices, it may be time to get support. Anxiety can show up as racing thoughts, trouble sleeping, a tight chest, stomach problems, irritability, or avoiding places and people.

Common types include generalized anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, and health-related worry. Anxiety often travels with depression, ADHD, or sleep problems, so we'll look at the whole picture.

Your first visit

The first evaluation is about 40 minutes by secure video. We'll talk about what you're feeling, when it started, what makes it better or worse, and how it affects your work, school, relationships, and sleep. I'll ask about your physical health too, since some medical issues, caffeine, and certain substances can feel a lot like anxiety.

My approach is collaborative. I use motivational interviewing, which means I'll help you find your own reasons for change and make room for any mixed feelings you have about treatment. You're the expert on your life; I bring the clinical knowledge.

Treatment options for anxiety

Together we'll look at evidence-based options and build a plan that fits you. That may include:

  • Therapy. Approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) are well studied for anxiety. I can help you think through referrals.
  • Medication. Several medications are FDA-approved for anxiety disorders, such as certain antidepressants (SSRIs and SNRIs). If you're interested, we'll go over the benefits, possible side effects, and how long they usually take to help. Medication is one option, never a requirement.
  • Mindfulness and self-compassion. I draw on mindfulness-based (MBCT) and compassion-focused approaches, which can help you notice anxious thoughts without getting swept up in them.
  • Daily habits. Sleep, movement, caffeine, alcohol, and screen time all play a role. Small changes can add up.

Follow-up care

Follow-ups are shorter visits, about 20 minutes. We'll check how you're doing, what's helping, and what to adjust. How often we meet is something we decide together.

Why telehealth can help with anxiety

For many people with anxiety, getting to an appointment is its own hurdle: traffic, waiting rooms, and unfamiliar offices. Telehealth lets you meet from a space where you already feel comfortable. All you need is a private spot, a reliable internet connection, and a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera. You must be located in Michigan at the time of each visit.
